Treatments are given with the recipient fully clothed and lying on a massage bed. We usually play relaxing music tuned to the frequency of 432hz which has been shown to promote healing. The therapist uses a range of hand movements, usually without touch, to channel and guide the life-force energy within you to promote healing wherever the body needs it most. It can work on a mental, emotional and physical level. It has been shown to be excellent for reducing the symptoms of stress, and thereby calming the mind to allow the body to heal physically. We treat both humans and animals.
Each session lasts around 45 mins and costs £35.
Sessions for animals are usually around 20-30 mins and always in their own environment. Sessions cost £20 - £30, including a travel surcharge.
A 20 min discovery call is necessary before booking an appointment so that we can ensure this treatment will be appropriate for the animal. In some cases distance healing is more effective than face to face.
Zoë is a qualified Reiki Master (Level 3) tracing her spiritual lineage back to the founder of Reiki, Mikao Usui, via the Usui Shiki Ryoho (Tibetan) Lineage.
“Reiki” (ray-key) is a Japanese word literally meaning ‘universal life energy' but it also refers to a system of natural energy healing. This form of healing was discovered by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research and dedicated practice.
Our world is a world of energy that sustains all living things. When this energy flows there is balance and harmony, both within and around us, and we experience a feeling of wellbeing and vitality. When there are blockages it can leave us feeling off balance and sometimes injured or ill. Reiki can help to remove any blockages in this energy and help it to flow freely again.
It is a treatment open to any belief system, it is not based on a religion itself and can be enjoyed by anyone.
Reiki treatment should not be used as a substitute for the consultation of a healthcare professional. It can complement other types of treatment and increase the efficiency of healing. Although, in some cases it has been shown to be effective at treating various health conditions on its own.
If you’re already in good health, regular Reiki treatments can enhance your ability to respond to stress and act as a method of preventive medicine.
Published studies link Reiki to a range of physical and emotional health benefits, including better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief.
Research suggests that Reiki helps the body return to a state of relaxation, which allows it to potentially better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury, or disease. A single Reiki session may help your autonomic nervous system, the part of your nervous system that you don’t consciously control (responsible for things like digestion and breathing), move from a sympathetic-dominant, or “fight-or-flight” state, to a parasympathetic-dominant, or “rest-and-digest” state.
There’s evidence that Reiki can help people recover after surgery and manage symptoms of chronic conditions such as cancer and AIDS.
Reiki is so balancing to our bodies, it can potentially benefit any situation.
Each person experiences Reiki differently and this can also change from session to session, depending on their needs at the time.
Clients may feel deeply relaxed during their session, which promotes a feeing of peace and calm often noted at the end of a treatment. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, 'fizzing' or are able to see colours. Others may have an emotional response suggesting that shifts in their energy are taking place and allowing balance to be restored.
Reiki is a non-intrusive treatment that can be delivered in a variety of settings and requires no special equipment.
Sometimes one session is enough, and sometimes several sessions may be required. We find that for people with long-standing issues then several sessions are often needed to clear things. In general if you find that helpful changes are taking place, it is a good idea to continue treatment.
Karma is an 8 year old German Shepherd, who until last year has always been full of energy, and whose favourite part of the day was most definitely accompanying my ex-partner to work, closely followed by her evening stroll!
The German Shepherd breed are often linked to mobility issues in their later years, not helped by the introduction of the sloped back. The Kennel Club breed standards give them a steeper angulation in their back legs, appearing more bent than a typical dog. This steep angle in the back then makes them more susceptible to back pain and hind leg problems. The steeper angle of the leg means their knee is closer to the ground, which can change their gait. After years of wear and tear, this makes them prone to serious leg problems as they age – and Karma is an example of this.
We noticed that Karma had started to slow down a little and was beginning to struggle to jump in and out of the back of the Land Rover – this had never troubled her before. This got worse and she started to refuse to go for her evening walks altogether, and then some days declined to go to work. We knew this wasn’t like her and put it down to her age and the issues with the breed noted above. The vet agreed this was likely and we decided to monitor her. We also noticed a lump in her stomach which we were due to get checked.
I started to give Karma Reiki to ease the pain in her legs. At first, she wasn’t sure, she hates to be ‘messed with’ and can instantly tell if you go from stroking and cuddling her to trying to have a look in her ear for example, and instantly gets up and walks off looking totally disgusted with you!! Anyway, she wasn’t sure about the Reiki because I wasn’t actually touching her, so she wasn’t really sure if I was messing with her or not…so she let me carry on. I gave her a session or two most weeks for the next few weeks. Then, I missed a couple of weeks and one evening she came to me pestering me for treats I thought….until eventually (after a lot of pestering) I realised she was asking for Reiki and I realised I hadn’t given her any for a while.
During this time Karma started to go to work every day again, and gradually has re-joined us for her evening stroll – preferring to watch her best friend walk whilst she sits in the car, but progress nonetheless. She now regularly asks me for Reiki – around a session every week or two now. And…miraculously the lump in her stomach has also disappeared!! She really does have a new lease of life and it is truly wonderful to see.
So, Reiki can also be beneficial to animals in the same way as humans and I treat both. It can take a session or two to gain trust and for the animal to understand what is happening and then they settle into it and seem to relax and really enjoy it. Sessions are usually shorter and done in their own environment. It can benefit them in all the same ways as humans.
Take a look at the video of Karma having Reiki (above) – you can see her going deeper and deeper into relaxation before she falls asleep and nothing can interfere with her session!
