Currently studying towards her 300hr qualification, Zoë strives to keep the classes light and fun, whilst creating and holding space to allow every individual in the group to get the most from their practice and ongoing journey of self-development.
She has been fortunate to travel over the years, and to live abroad and has experienced yoga in its home countries of India and China; learning from some amazing teachers. Zoë first began a daily practice of yoga herself, whilst suffering with anxiety and depression - she incorporated yoga into her life and experienced first hand the healing benefits; to mind body and soul. Zoë now takes this learning, gathered over 25 years, and shares it with her students - helping them to understand their own bodies, and the powerful healing link between body, mind and breath.
Zoë is also a qualified Pranayama (breathwork) Coach and Meditation Teacher, Personal Trainer with experience in many health conditions, Reiki Master Healer and Sound Therapy Practitioner - she brings this knowledge into her yoga classroom and delivers her classes with love.
Classes are usually one hour. They always begin with a short grounding to bring us back to our bodies and to connect with our practice.
In Hatha Yoga, we then move into a seated or standing warm up, moving to sun salutations, and then on to our asanas (postures). We follow the classical form of Hatha Yoga which takes 4 dynamic breaths moving into each asana and then we hold the asana for 4 static breaths, which allows us to deepen our hold and obtain the most benefits from each posture.
In Yin Yoga, we then move into our asanas which are passive in comparison to the active Hatha asanas. We move into a posture and stay there for between 2-5 minutes depending on the pose. Once in the asana we try not to move and out focus is on relaxing the body and breathing away any tension. We work through a series of around 8-10 asanas per class.
We finish each class with a guided relaxation, breath-work and some silent sitting before floating away to enjoy the rest of our day - feeling peace and calm which we can share with everyone we meet. Namaste.
Before joining a class for the first time you will need to complete an exercise PAR-Q form and let your teacher know of any injuries or health conditions - this ensures that she can keep you safe during your practice.
Currently Zoë is not teaching pre or post-natal yoga but can sign-post any ladies this may concern to some great local classes specialising in these areas. Indeed it can be a wonderful form of exercise during and after pregnancy.
You will need to bring an exercise mat to your class - we don't provide these for hygiene reasons. Some people also enjoy bringing a blanket and/or warm socks to snuggle under during our relaxation section of class. Some people also like to bring a bottle of water to rehydrate and help flush out the toxins released in the body after practice.
As you begin your practice you may find it useful to have some yoga blocks, a strap, and perhaps a cushion or bolster. These are not necessary for everyone so it is best to begin and see what you need as you go. Our bodies are all different and (contrary to Instagram) there is no 'perfect yoga posture' - it all depends on our personal biomechanics. So there will most likely be some postures that you find more challenging than others and in this case some aids can help.
